"Using movement as a mood enhancer is certainly nothing new... and now a small but growing number of therapists is mixing exercise into counseling sessions. The results, proponents say, is a surprisingly powerful two in one treatment. Geri Dubé, a therapist who counsels her clients during 3 mile strolls through Seattle's Green Lake Park, says, "When you're out walking, you're working from a position of health (not mental illness)".

Walk and Talk Therapy on the Greenlake Loop

Geri Dubé, and Eastside therapist, is taking her practice out of the box and moving outdoors. Geri began "Walk and Talk Therapy" around Greenlake earlier this month. Each Sunday at noon, or by appointment, they walk around Greenlake wearing signs encouraging people to call and schedule a walk and talk session for just $85.00 per hour. Geri can be reached at (425) 739-0444. Day, time and park are flexible.

After a career of over ten years of traditional therapy, Geri decided to remove the clinical setting which reinforces the stigma of mental "illness" and replace it with a natural, holistic approach that fosters mental "health". She believes that a brisk walk releases endorphins and gets the creative, problem-solving juices flowing-especially with the assist of insightful, guided questioning. A licensed psychotherapist, Geri has taught, mentored, facilitated groups and done individual therapy privately and at universities and clinics throughout the area.

Geri is dedicated to making therapy accessible, affordable, and holistic. "Therapy is about growth and self-actualization. It is a means of getting in touch with desires, goals, purpose and feelings in order to lead a more meaningful and healthy life." Geri is available to meet at any park on any day and can be contacted at the aforementioned number.
